Map Description:
This shaded polygon map shows the percent change in the amount of developed land (rban areas and rural transportation land) area from 1982 to 1997 within each 8 digit hydrologic unit, using 1982 as a base year. The percentages are presented in four categories based on the following divisions: an increase of 50% or more, an increase of 25% to 50%, an increase of 5% to 25%, and an increase of less than 15%. There was a 39.5 increase in developed land area between 1982 and 1997. Metropolitan satistical Areas with a population greater than 100,000 in 1996 are indicated by black squares. Areas with 95

This map may be misleading as area with small amounts of developed land may have very high rates of change. This map does not show the amount of land being developed. Data are not collected on Federal land. Data are not available for Puerto Rico, Alaska, and the Pacific Basin.
