Map Description:
This polygon map shows the annual rate of new acres in Developed Land. Developed land is a combination of
land cover/use categories: urban and built-up areas, and rural transportation land. The map can be used to find broad
national patterns in the geography of developed land. It could be correlated with similar maps of National Resources
Inventory data from periods 1982-1987, 1982-1992, 1992-1997. Total acres developed: 29,350,100. Watersheds are defined as U.S. Geological Survey Hydrologic-Cataloging Units (8-digit).
Cautions for this Product:
Use this map only to identify broad spatial trends. NRI sample data are generally reliable at the 95% confidence interval
for state and certain broad substate area analyses. Generally, analyses that aggregate data points by smaller geographic
areas and/or more specific criteria result in fewer data points for each aggregation and therefore less reliable
estimates. When provided, refer to the estimated margins of error to determine suitability of the data for a particular
purpose. NRI maps reflect national patterns rather than site-specific information.
