Using mapped habitat information, satellite data, and expert opinion as guides, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) developed a threat analysis for each ecoregion. This map is from the publication entitled "Terrestrial Ecoregions of North America: A Conservation Assessment, fig. 4.3 pg. 72, which is is an excellent resource for assessing the status and trends of biodiversity. For instance, the Central Tall Grasslands (60), Northern Mixed Grasslands (56) and the Central and Southern Mixed Grasslands (64) are critical areas that need biodiveristy protection and restoration.
